The UK is the windiest country in Europe and, since the first wind farm in the UK was built in 1991, wind energy has become the UK's largest renewable energy source - generating 2.2% of the UK’s electricity supply in 2007.
The UK Government's Renewable Energy Strategy aims to generate 15% of all the UK's energy from renewables by 2020, although the recent report 'Building a Low Carbon Economy' predicts that by 2020, wind energy technology alone has the potential to deliver 30% of the UK's overall electricity supply.
Domestic wind turbines are effectively a much smaller version of the commercial wind turbines which are already common across the UK. Domestic wind turbines can be fitted to your house - or in a suitable location nearby - to provide electricity for your home. Energy produced supplements energy received from the national grid, thus reducing your bills and allowing you to enjoy the best of both worlds - free, renewable energy on windy days and mains supply when weather conditions are quieter.
Rural areas tend to be better sites for domestic wind turbines than urban areas due to issues with buildings and other structures blocking the wind. If you wish to investigate domestic wind turbines, the first step is to establish whether there is enough wind at your property for it to be a viable option. Call Save Energy Solutions and we can advise whether this is the case before discussing the many options and systems we can offer.
Rainwater Harvesting

Rainwater Harvesting systems are mainly used as a back-up system to your conventional mains water supply. They allow water channelled and stored during rainfall to be pumped to a supplementary storage tank serving toilet cisterns from a direct pipe connection. If the storage tank is empty (or a power failure occurs), the controls will automatically revert to supplying mains water to the storage tank.
Commercial premises & industrial units can especially benefit from Rainwater Harvesting systems. Significant cost savings can be made on high levels of mains water consumption uses such as toilets and commercial laundry. Save Energy Solutions will assess your requirements and provide the right solution for your premises. As well as saving costs, rainwater harvesting systems can help improve the impact on the environment of an organisation’s day to day activities and reduce an organisations' overall carbon footprint.
Some Rainwater Harvesting systems have been accredited by the ECA (Enhanced Capital Allowance Scheme) through The Carbon Trust on behalf of the Government. This means that businesses investing in these rainwater harvesting systems can claim 100% first year tax relief on their qualifying capital expenditure and businesses can write off the whole of the capital cost of their investment against their taxable profits during the period in which they make the investment.
GreyWater Recycling

GreyWater Recycling Systems (or GreyWater Management Systems) re-cycle waste water from kitchens, washing machines, bathrooms (etc) and re-use it to flush toilets. Any water that has been used in the home - except water from toilets - is called 'grey water'.
Although commonly used domestically by architects, developers, housing associations and environmental agencies within a growing culture of sustainable construction, commercial and industrial uses of this technology is increasing as greywater systems can reduce mains water consumption and drainage by up to 30% and therefore provide significant savings on water and sewage bills. Greywater systems are particularly beneficial for properties with a high water consumption, for irrigation systems and in areas with a limited or absent mains water supply.
Increasingly, a relatively high degree of energy is used by water companies and sewage treatment plants to clean and purify water which is then used for ancillary purposes such as cistern flushing. This purification process (for such a relatively mundane usage) adds further pressures on the water system and, with ever-changing climatic conditions and an ever-growing population, we all need to find ways to use our water resources in a far more efficient and environmentally-friendly way than at present.
Save Energy Solutions offer unique micro greywater systems for domestic and small commercial use, as well as larger systems for light and heavy industrial purposes. Please contact us for further information.
